Winnipeg’s Beloved Dancer, Lily Guberman, Takes the Stage at 102

An esteemed Winnipeg dancer graced the stage once again last week, more than eight decades after her debut. Lily Guberman, a remarkable 102-year-old, delighted audiences with her performance in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s annual production of ‘Nutcracker’ while dressed in full costume.

Having been a member of the original Winnipeg Ballet Club in 1939, which eventually evolved into the prestigious Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Guberman’s passion for dance has never wavered. “I loved it. I always loved dancing,” she expressed with joy. “Such a good, good, wonderful feeling with the music and the people.”

Following her remarkable performance, Guberman was presented with a bouquet and had the opportunity to meet with her adoring fans. “It’s a very happy feeling to dance,” she shared, radiating with gratitude.

This particular performance held special significance for Guberman, as her daughter made the journey from British Columbia to witness her mother’s awe-inspiring talent on stage.
