Search for 4 missing people after air ambulance crash resumes on Quebec’s North Shore

Search Continues for Missing Individuals After Helicopter Crash in Quebec

Quebec provincial police are currently conducting a search at Watshishou Lake on the North Shore for four individuals who went missing following a helicopter crash on Friday night. The incident involved an Airmedic helicopter carrying four crew members and one passenger who were in the midst of a medical evacuation when the aircraft crashed into the lake shortly after takeoff. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has confirmed the details of the crash.

The search operation, which includes divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and assistance from the Canadian Armed Forces, was temporarily halted overnight but resumed the following day. One crew member managed to escape the crash and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by Airmedic.

Joining the search efforts are the Royal Canadian Air Force, with support from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax dispatching a CC-130 Hercules and a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter. The TSB has launched an investigation into the incident, with Quebec’s workplace safety board (CNESST) also taking part in the inquiry.

In response to the tragedy, Airmedic has decided to suspend operations temporarily to prioritize the well-being of their team members and provide necessary support during this difficult time. The company expressed deep sadness over the incident and its impact on their staff.

Watshishou Lake, where the crash occurred, is located approximately 50 kilometers north of the Jacques Cartier Strait and nearly 900 kilometers northeast of Quebec City. The remote location has posed challenges for the search and rescue teams involved in the operation.
