Second public info session being held in Springhill in wake of drug OD deaths

Nova Scotia Health’s mental health and addictions program, Public Health, and the groups Northern Healthy Connections, and Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association are holding a second drop-in community wellness event in Springhill on Friday in the wake of two drug overdose deaths there last week.

The session follows one on Wednesday set up to provide support and share information on substance use harm-reduction strategies. Nova Scotia Health spokesman Brendan Elliot said the session was booked in case there were people not able to participate Wednesday.

The groups will share information about their programs and support with community members and discuss ways to connect with each other.

Anyone in the community is welcome to attend the session, which will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre at 6 Main St. in Springhill.

In the first hour, each group will briefly discuss how they provide support. 

They will also give instructions on administering Naloxone and where to get free take home naloxone kits.
