Rubio assume another Trump admin role, acting director of US Archives: report

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken on yet another new role in President Donald Trump’s administration, serving as the acting director of the U.S. Archives in addition to his existing position as the acting director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). According to ABC News, a high-level official confirmed Rubio’s appointment to the position of acting archivist, a role he assumed shortly after Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president last month.
The decision to appoint Rubio as the acting archivist comes in the midst of a controversy surrounding classified documents that Trump allegedly took with him to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after leaving office. The National Archives notified the Justice Department earlier this year, leading to an FBI raid and Trump being indicted by former Special Counsel Jack Smith.
In his new role, Rubio has wasted no time in making an impact. During his first official State Department trip to Central America, he successfully convinced the Panamanian president to end the country’s Belt and Roads project deal with the Chinese government. Trump had expressed concerns about Beijing’s alleged control over the Panama Canal, suggesting that the United States could take measures to claim the strategic waterway if necessary.
Rubio’s trip to Central America also focused on addressing immigration issues and strengthening partnerships with countries in the region. He secured agreements with both El Salvador and Guatemala for the countries to accept deportees from the U.S., showcasing a commitment to addressing shared challenges and fostering cooperation.
Additionally, Rubio has been instrumental in revamping foreign aid programs to align with U.S. national interests. He issued waivers for programs aimed at gathering biometric information to identify fugitives and enhancing technology and K-9 units to detect shipments of deadly fentanyl and precursor chemicals. By prioritizing foreign aid that supports America’s strategic objectives, Rubio is demonstrating a clear vision for U.S. engagement abroad.
Despite the challenges and controversies surrounding his new roles, Rubio has received praise for his effectiveness and commitment to implementing President Trump’s vision for peace through strength. Republican allies like Rep. Carlos Giménez have commended Rubio for his efforts in advancing U.S. interests and achieving tangible outcomes in key policy areas.
As Secretary of State and acting archivist, Rubio continues to navigate complex geopolitical issues with a focus on promoting American interests and values. His leadership and diplomatic skills will be crucial in shaping U.S. foreign policy and ensuring a secure and prosperous future for the country.
