Netflix subscriber sues company for ‘breach of contract’ over poor quality of Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight

Netflix is currently facing a lawsuit following numerous complaints about buffering and glitches during the highly anticipated Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight on Friday night. The lawsuit, filed in Florida by Ronald “Blue” Denton, accuses Netflix of breach of contract for the constant glitches experienced during the event.

In response to the poor streaming quality, Netflix released a statement on Monday acknowledging the technical challenges faced during the event. Elizabeth Stone, a Netflix executive, stated, “This unprecedented scale created many technical challenges, which the launch team tackled brilliantly by prioritizing stability of the stream for the majority of viewers. I’m sure many of you have seen the chatter in the press and on social media about the quality issues. We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members and know we have room for improvement but still consider this event a huge success.”

Netflix also revealed that the live boxing event between Tyson and Paul drew a record-breaking 108 million viewers globally, making it the most-streamed sporting event ever. The live broadcast from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, peaked at 65 million concurrent households in the U.S., with an estimated 56% of all TV viewership in the country tuning in to the Tyson-Paul fight between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. ET.

The co-main event, a rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, also drew a massive audience of 74 million live viewers globally, becoming the most-watched professional women’s sports event in U.S. history. However, issues began to arise during the Mario Barrios-Abel Ramos bout and only worsened leading up to the Serrano-Taylor fight.

One particular moment that sparked backlash and mockery on social media was when boxing legend Evander Holyfield and Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones had their microphones cut out while discussing the fights. Jones was promoting the NFL’s partnership with Netflix at the time.

Howard Stern, on his radio show, warned Netflix to ensure that such technical issues are resolved in the future. He emphasized the importance of delivering a seamless streaming experience, especially for high-profile events like live sports.

Despite the challenges faced during the event, Netflix remains committed to providing top-quality streaming services. The streaming platform is set to stream an NFL debut doubleheader on Christmas, featuring games between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.

In conclusion, while the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight may have experienced technical difficulties, Netflix continues to push forward with its live streaming events. The streaming giant aims to learn from past experiences and improve its services to deliver a flawless viewing experience for its subscribers.
