Moguls GOAT Kingsbury goes for a quadruple double at the world championships

The winter sports world is in full swing with the ongoing world championships in freestyle skiing and snowboarding in Switzerland. This month has been jam-packed with thrilling competitions in various disciplines such as moguls, aerials, halfpipe, big air, slopestyle, ski cross, and snowboard cross.

Canadian freestyle skiing legend Mikaël Kingsbury is once again the main character to watch as he aims for an unprecedented fourth consecutive moguls/dual moguls double. At 32 years old, Kingsbury remains at the top of his game, having dominated the World Cup circuit this season with nine wins and four silver medals. His performance has solidified his status as one of the greatest moguls skiers of all time.

However, Kingsbury faces stiff competition from Japan’s Ikuma Horishima, the 2017 double world champion who narrowly edged out Kingsbury for the World Cup moguls title last season. With both athletes showcasing their skills in qualifying, fans can expect an intense battle for the top spot in the finals.

On the women’s side, Canadian Maia Schwinghammer is also a strong contender in moguls, having secured a gold and two bronze medals on the World Cup circuit this season. Her fourth-place finish in qualifying sets the stage for an exciting showdown in the finals.

In addition to moguls, Canada has traditionally excelled in ski cross, with athletes like Reece Howden and Marielle Thompson leading the charge. Howden, who ranks second in the men’s World Cup standings, is coming off a strong season with multiple victories. Thompson, the 2014 Olympic champion, unfortunately suffered a season-ending knee injury but has left a lasting impact on the sport.

Fans can catch all the thrilling action live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem, with additional coverage on the CBC TV network on weekends. The medal rounds for each event promise to deliver adrenaline-pumping moments as athletes push the limits of their skills on the world stage. Don’t miss out on the excitement of the freestyle ski and snowboard world championships as the best athletes in the world vie for glory and gold.
