New fiscal responsibility group wants Trump to show he’s serious about debt crisis

The Concord Coalition has launched a new advocacy group, Concord Action, aimed at pressuring Congress to address America’s $36 trillion debt crisis. Former Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux, D-GA, the new executive director and president of Concord Action, emphasized the need for President Donald Trump to lead a bipartisan effort to tackle the nation’s spending.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Bourdeaux stressed the importance of Trump reaching across the aisle and working with Democrats to address the debt crisis. She highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach that examines all aspects of the budget, including mandatory spending and tax policies.

With the economy ranking as a top concern for American voters in 2024, Bourdeaux expressed confidence that balancing the budget is achievable. Drawing on the example of the 1990s, when Republicans and Democrats worked together to achieve budget surpluses, she emphasized the need for a similar bipartisan effort today.

Bourdeaux called for a concrete plan from Trump during his congressional address, noting that the current lack of a serious proposal is concerning. She stressed the importance of setting a clear path forward to balance the budget and restore fiscal responsibility.

In response to Bourdeaux’s comments, Deputy White House press secretary Harrison Fields reiterated Trump’s commitment to government efficiency and fiscal responsibility. Fields highlighted Trump’s establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the leadership of Elon Musk, aimed at maximizing governmental efficiency and savings.

The DOGE website has estimated significant savings through measures such as contract cancelations, workforce reductions, and regulatory changes. This aggressive approach to eliminating government waste has drawn praise from Republicans and criticism from Democrats.

Bipartisan efforts at the federal level, such as the introduction of bills targeting improper payments, demonstrate a growing focus on fiscal responsibility. The establishment of the Senate DOGE Caucus and the Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency Caucus in the House further highlight the commitment to promoting efficiency and accountability in government.

Overall, the launch of Concord Action and the focus on fiscal responsibility underscore the importance of addressing America’s debt crisis. With bipartisan support and a clear plan in place, there is optimism that the nation can achieve fiscal stability and secure a more sustainable future.
