Suspect arrested after body found in Sydney apartment

Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating a death they believe is related to an assault that took place in Sydney.

Officers were first called to an apartment building on MacAulay’s Lane on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. local time.

“Originally, police received a call to 911 for an individual who was causing a disturbance outside one of the residences, banging on some doors, that type of thing,” said police spokesperson Desiree Magnus.

“As a result of being at that residence on MacAulay’s Lane, they did discover a deceased person inside.”

Magnus said the person is believed to be a “victim of an assault.” A suspect was arrested at the scene and charges are pending.

The provincial medical examiner’s office is now working to identify an exact cause of death. Police did not release the name of the victim or any other details.

Magnus said the pair were known to one another. They are treating the matter as an isolated incident.
