Israeli President Herzog highlights antisemitism in UN speech as new report shows shocking trend

As the world commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, the resurgence of antisemitism has become a growing concern. Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the United Nations on this solemn occasion, expressing his disappointment in the lack of action against antisemitism within international institutions.
Herzog highlighted the troubling reality that antisemitic views are allowed to flourish unchecked, even in the aftermath of the Holocaust, which was the greatest massacre of Jews since World War II. He criticized the distortion of the definition of genocide to attack Israel and the Jewish people, while condemning the rise of antisemitism, barbarism, cruelty, and racism within the U.N.
A recent report by the Anti-Defamation League revealed that 46% of adults worldwide hold deeply entrenched antisemitic attitudes, a number that has more than doubled since 2014. The survey found varying levels of agreement with antisemitic stereotypes across different regions, with the Middle East and Africa showing the highest levels of agreement.
In response to the rise in antisemitism, some American Jews have begun seeking safety outside the U.S., with an increasing number choosing to immigrate to Israel. Nuri Katz, a citizenship through investment expert, has seen a rise in Jewish clients seeking citizenship in small Caribbean countries due to concerns about antisemitism.
Despite a recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the global state of antisemitism remains a significant challenge. Rabbi Moshe Hauer emphasized the need for the world to move past distortions and focus on building a positive future. Elevated security costs have become a common burden for Jewish communities, diverting resources from strengthening family and community bonds.
While there is hope for a better future, challenges remain as some hostages are still held by Hamas. Hauer called for a continued effort to address the issue and ensure the release of all remaining hostages. The fight against antisemitism requires a collective effort from leaders, responsible individuals, and the broader community to combat hate and promote unity.
