Leaders campaign against backdrop of global market turmoil

Carney mocks Alberta Premier Danielle Smith during campaign stop

Greetings, I am Cat Tunney and I am covering the latest updates from the Liberal campaign trail. Carney continues to make headlines as he travels west, with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith being a frequent target of his jabs.

Addressing supporters in Victoria on Sunday evening, Carney reaffirmed his commitment to taking on Trump’s trade policies.

“We are challenging them on every front,” he declared, emphasizing that retaliatory tariffs will have economic repercussions for Americans.

“We are engaging with them through Fox News, which is their preferred platform. We are even sending Doug Ford to appear on Fox News to show them that we mean business,” he quipped, eliciting laughter from the Liberal audience.

“And next up, we may consider sending Danielle. Well, maybe not Danielle. Actually, scratch that, we definitely won’t send Danielle.”

Later on, as he discussed energy issues, there was a momentary glitch with his microphone.

“Don’t worry, folks. That was just Danielle trying to sabotage us,” he joked.

This isn’t the first instance of Carney targeting the Alberta premier during his campaign stops. Smith, a vocal critic of the federal Liberals, recently expressed her support for Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, citing his alignment with Trump’s policies.
