A devastating boat explosion at a South Florida marina has resulted in the death of a man from Quebec and left six others injured, officials have confirmed.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday at the Lauderdale Marina in Fort Lauderdale, where Sebastien Gauthier, 41, was among seven passengers aboard a 37-foot vessel. The man has been identified as the victim of the explosion, according to Arielle Callender, a spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Initial reports suggest that the vessel exploded shortly after its engines were started, leading to the tragic outcome. The six other passengers were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention following the explosion.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the FWC is working diligently to uncover the cause of the explosion and determine any contributing factors. Callender expressed the FWC’s heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Gauthier during this challenging time.
