Can I outsmart thieves with a hidden AirTag in RFID wallet?

Apple AirTags have become a popular tool for tracking personal items, including vehicles. However, there are limitations to consider when using AirTags to outsmart car thieves. One key drawback is that thieves with iPhones can easily detect hidden AirTags in vehicles they are trying to steal, making it challenging to effectively hide the device.

In response to this limitation, some individuals have explored the idea of using RFID wallets to make AirTags undetectable to car thieves. However, this strategy may not be as effective as initially thought. While RFID wallets are designed to protect items from radio waves used by RFID readers, they are not effective in blocking Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) signals emitted by Apple AirTags. This means that even if an AirTag is placed in an RFID-blocking wallet, it can still be detected by thieves using iPhones or locators.

On the other hand, Faraday bags, which use electromagnetic shielding, can successfully block Apple AirTag signals. However, placing an AirTag in a Faraday bag may prevent thieves from detecting the device, but it also makes it difficult for the owner to track its location using methods like FindMy.

In light of these limitations, it may be worth considering alternative technologies and methods for enhancing car security. GPS trackers provide real-time location data without the risk of detection, while physical deterrents like steering wheel locks and alarm systems can act as effective safeguards against theft. By combining multiple layers of security measures, individuals can better protect their vehicles from theft.

Ultimately, while Apple AirTags can be a useful tool for tracking vehicles, they may not be the most effective solution for outsmarting car thieves. It is important to carefully consider the limitations of AirTags and explore other security options to ensure the safety of your vehicle.
