GOP lawmakers urge Trump to flex muscle as Senate stalls on ‘signature’ bill

House and Senate Republicans are eagerly awaiting President Donald Trump’s next move as they work to push his “big, beautiful bill” through Congress. The legislation covers a wide range of issues including tax, immigration, energy, defense, and the national debt, all of which align with the former president’s agenda.

Representative Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin emphasized that Trump is the leader of the Republican Party and must ensure that all GOP lawmakers understand the significance of the bill, which was supported by 77 million Americans in the last election. The goal is to have the legislation on Trump’s desk by the Fourth of July, a deadline that has been set by the president himself.

Trump has been actively advocating for the bill, both publicly and on his social media platform, Truth Social. He has been engaging with congressional leaders and White House officials to urge Republicans to support the legislation. The White House has been in constant communication with lawmakers, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Vice President JD Vance all playing a role in rallying support for the bill.

While the House successfully passed the bill with Trump’s active involvement, some lawmakers are calling for the president to take a more forceful approach in the Senate. Senator Steve Daines of Montana credited Trump for the bill’s success in the House, likening him to a closer in baseball who can deliver when needed most.

However, not all Republican senators are on board with the idea of Trump getting more involved. Senator Rick Scott of Florida emphasized the importance of understanding the bill before voting on it, while Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana called for a timely vote to move the process forward.

Overall, there is a mix of opinions among Republicans regarding Trump’s level of involvement in pushing the bill through the Senate. Some believe his deal-making skills will be crucial in bringing lawmakers together, while others stress the need for a transparent and efficient voting process. As the debate continues, all eyes are on President Trump and his potential role in securing support for the legislation.
