N.S. RCMP search for man believed to be armed with shotgun after motel shooting

Nova Scotia RCMP are searching for a man who is believed to be armed with a shotgun following a shooting at a motel in Brookfield, where a woman was injured late Sunday night.
Police say Darren Trevor Jackson, 52, fled the scene of a shooting at a motel on Highway 2 following a shooting.Around 11:10 p.m., an emergency alert was sent out in Colchester, Cumberland, Guysborough, Hants and Pictou counties and Halifax Regional Municipality to alert the public of the man at large.
Jackson is described as a white man, five feet 10 inches tall and 205 pounds.
An RCMP update around 3:20 p.m. on Monday stated Jackson’s vehicle, a dark 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was seized in Truro by the Truro Police Service. They are unsure whether Jackson is on foot or travelling in a different vehicle.
In an update provided by Nova Scotia RCMP at 7:45 a.m. Monday, police said the search is ongoing and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
At 9:30 a.m. Monday, the RCMP issued their final update, cancelling the emergency alert that was issued the night before. RCMP investigators determined that the incident was targeted and the victim was known to Jackson and that there is no threat to the public.
Cpl. Chris Marshall, the public information officer for the RCMP said in a phone call at 11 a.m. on Monday that any tips or information would be helpful in locating Jackson, and he encouraged people to reach out to the Colchester District RCMP if they have any information.
“The more tips we get, should lead to the quicker apprehension of Jackson,” Marshall said.
He added that currently, there isn’t any risk to public safety, given that the incident wasn’t random.
“The reality of the situation is that the shooting occurred last night, it was a targeted incident was was targeted specifically by Jackson. We haven’t had any other calls or any other incidents since the first and only call last night,” he added.

Jackson is still considered armed, and the RCMP are asking anyone who sees him not to approach him.
