Hawaiian Airlines flight evacuated over possible bomb threat; person arrested

An individual was taken into custody following the diversion of a Hawaiian Airlines flight while it was taxiing at the San Diego International Airport. The diversion was prompted by a potential bomb threat onboard the aircraft.

The Port of San Diego Harbor Police verified that Hawaiian Airlines Flight 15 had to be diverted after the captain contacted dispatch to report a possible bomb threat. The flight, scheduled to depart for Honolulu, Hawaii, had just disconnected from the jetway when a passenger alerted a flight attendant about the potential threat.

Port of San Diego spokesperson Brianne Mundy Page confirmed that an arrest had been made in connection to the incident. However, details about the suspect and potential charges were not immediately available. Page assured that more information would be disclosed later.

In response to the situation, the Port of San Diego Harbor Police’s Maritime Tactical team, K-9 Team, Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the San Diego Fire Department, along with the FBI, conducted a thorough search of the aircraft and its contents.

All 293 passengers on board the flight were safely evacuated and moved to a secure location while law enforcement agencies conducted a comprehensive search of the plane. Isai Solorzano, a Navy sailor who was a passenger on the flight, recounted witnessing law enforcement officials boarding the aircraft and inquiring about specific containers.

Despite the initial scare, authorities confirmed that nothing suspicious was found onboard the plane. The San Diego Airport reassured the public that there were no delays resulting from the investigation.

The Associated Press contributed to the report.
