ICE director demands Dem apologize for calling agency ‘terrorist force’

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons is speaking out against progressive Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., for her recent comments labeling the agency as a “terrorist force.” Lyons pointed to Jayapal’s past attempt to shift blame away from an actual terrorist, highlighting the congresswoman’s hypocrisy.

In a social media post, Jayapal claimed that ICE is acting like a terrorist force, alleging that people of all legal statuses, including U.S. citizens, are being “kidnapped and disappeared off the street by masked men.” She further accused ICE of operating without oversight, accountability, and lawlessness.

During an interview on CNN, Jayapal reiterated her claims, stating that ICE agents are kidnapping and disappearing individuals on the streets of the United States. She expressed shock at witnessing such actions in America and demanded an apology from the administration to those affected by ICE operations.

In response, Lyons criticized Jayapal for defending an actual terrorist who attempted to blow up an ICE facility in Washington in 2019, blaming the attack on right-wing rhetoric. He called out Jayapal for labeling ICE officers as terrorists while ignoring the increasing assaults they face, partly fueled by her rhetoric.

Lyons expressed disbelief at a sitting member of Congress prioritizing regard for violent criminals over law enforcement officers protecting the community. He called for an apology from Jayapal to her constituents for her misguided views.

The Department of Homeland Security reported a 690% increase in assaults against ICE officers and federal agents conducting immigration enforcement compared to the previous year. A special agent working deportations raised concerns about the escalating violence and the impact of Democratic policies that expose officials, threatening their families and communities.

The agent emphasized that Democratic leadership is directly responsible for any harm that may come to ICE officers and their families. The escalating violence and rhetoric targeting law enforcement officials have created a dangerous environment for those carrying out immigration enforcement duties.

In conclusion, Lyons and other ICE officials are calling out Rep. Jayapal for her inflammatory remarks and defense of violent criminals over law enforcement officers. The escalating assaults on ICE officers underscore the challenges they face in carrying out their duties. It is essential for lawmakers to support law enforcement agencies and ensure their safety as they uphold immigration laws set by Congress.
