Russia snubs Trump’s Vatican peace plan and accuses him of being ’emotional’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declined President Donald Trump’s proposal to hold the next round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine at the Vatican. This decision comes after the suggestion was made by the newly appointed American pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, earlier this month. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg confirmed this news during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday morning, stating that the Russians were not interested in holding the talks at the Vatican and proposed Geneva as an alternative location.
It is still uncertain when the next round of talks will take place, as Russia has not yet agreed to the U.S.’s peace proposal. The Russian foreign ministry stated on Tuesday that they are still working on finalizing the memorandum of terms for the negotiations.
President Trump recently took to social media to issue a warning to Putin, stating that he is “playing with fire.” Trump emphasized the importance of his role in preventing negative outcomes for Russia and criticized Putin for his actions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also accused Moscow of “playing games” following a large drone strike in Ukraine.
In response to the escalating tensions, Trump condemned Putin as “crazy” on his social media platform, Truth Social. He expressed concern over the indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Ukraine and warned Putin that further aggression could lead to dire consequences for Russia.
The Kremlin responded to Trump’s remarks by accusing him of being “emotional.” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed gratitude to the Americans for their assistance in organizing the negotiations but noted the heightened emotions surrounding the situation.
Trump continued his verbal attacks on Putin and criticized Zelenskyy for his rhetoric, suggesting that the Ukrainian president’s words were causing more harm than good. The exact statements made by Zelenskyy that prompted Trump’s reaction remain unclear.
As the situation between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, diplomatic efforts are ongoing to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The international community is closely monitoring the developments in the region, with hopes for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
