Longtime NFL coach Norv Turner to serve in advisory role in second stint with Raiders

Norv Turner, a seasoned NFL coach, has had a long history with the league, including a two-year stint as head coach of the Raiders from 2004 to 2005. Now, Turner is set to make his return to the Raiders organization, this time in a senior advisor capacity. This announcement comes amidst a five-game losing streak for the team, prompting significant changes to the coaching staff.
In addition to Norv Turner’s return, his son Scott has been named the Raiders’ offensive coordinator. Scott previously served as the team’s pass game coordinator. Joe Philbin will step in as the interim offensive line coach following the departure of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and offensive line coach James Cregg.
Norv Turner will be working closely with Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, a former linebacker in his first full season as an NFL head coach. The experienced Tom Coughlin, who won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, will also continue in his role as a consultant to Pierce.
During his time as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator in the early 1990s, Turner won two Super Bowls. His previous tenure as the Raiders head coach ended with a 9-23 record. Throughout his 15 seasons as an NFL head coach, Turner compiled a record of 114-122-1.
Raiders defensive back Nate Hobbs shared his thoughts on the coaching changes, emphasizing the importance of performance and the competitive nature of the NFL. The team will have a bye week in Week 9 before returning to face the Miami Dolphins on November 17.
As the Raiders look to turn their season around, the addition of Norv Turner and the reshuffling of the coaching staff bring a renewed sense of optimism to the team. With experienced minds guiding the way, the Raiders aim to get back on track and compete at the highest level in the NFL.
