Rose Bowl half-marathon and 5K postponed due to wildfires

The Rose Bowl half-marathon and 5K, which were scheduled to take place on Jan. 19, have been postponed due to the devastating wildfires that have been raging in Southern California. This marks the fourth sporting event in the area to be rescheduled as a result of the fires, with Kings and Lakers games also being postponed, and the Vikings-Rams playoff game being moved to Arizona.
The McCourt Foundation, which sponsors the race, released a statement expressing their concerns for those affected by the fires and emphasizing that the well-being of participants, volunteers, and the community is their top priority. They also extended their gratitude to the emergency personnel and first responders who are working tirelessly to protect the community.
The race, which has been a staple event since 2019, takes runners through the Pasadena area near the iconic Rose Bowl stadium before finishing on the field. Unfortunately, the fires have burned approximately 30,000 acres, destroyed over 10,000 buildings, and tragically claimed at least 10 lives.
Efforts are currently underway to reschedule the Rose Bowl Half Marathon & 5K in collaboration with the Rose Bowl, although a new date has not yet been confirmed. Updates will be shared with participants and the community through email, the foundation’s website, and social media platforms as soon as they become available.
The wildfires have had a profound impact on the region, with several celebrities, including Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick, losing their homes. The destruction left behind by the fires is immense, and the community is coming together to support those affected.
As the situation continues to unfold, it is important to stay informed and support relief efforts in any way possible. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the fires, and we stand in solidarity with the community as they work towards recovery and rebuilding.
