Officer Fires Shots at Vehicle in Fairview, Halifax

Two Arrested in Connection to Incident

Halifax police have reported that an officer shot at a vehicle in the community of Fairview on Wednesday evening after the driver drove towards the officer during a traffic stop. Two individuals were arrested early Thursday in connection to the case.

A news release from Halifax Regional Police stated that two officers were outside of their vehicle on Main Avenue around 7 p.m. when they noticed a car driving erratically. The officers signaled for the vehicle to stop, and it complied. However, as they approached the vehicle, it suddenly accelerated towards one of the officers at a high speed.

In an effort to halt the vehicle, one of the officers drew their weapon and discharged two shots at the side of the vehicle. The vehicle then fled the scene. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed.

Shortly after the incident, police intercepted a vehicle they believed to be involved in the case in a parking lot at the corner of Joseph Howe Drive and Dutch Village Road. Four suspects were initially apprehended but were later released after it was confirmed that they were not connected to the incident.

At around 1 a.m. on Thursday, authorities located the suspect vehicle, a black Nissan Sentra, at a residence in Halifax. A man and a woman were taken into custody. Thankfully, neither of them sustained any injuries during the shooting.

The investigation into the matter is being handled by the province’s Serious Incident Response Team, which is responsible for examining all significant incidents involving law enforcement.
