Marine vet takes aim at Trump, Musk in video launch for key swing House seat

Maura Sullivan, a former Marine Corps officer who deployed in the Iraq War and later served at the Pentagon and the Veterans Administration under former President Barack Obama, has announced her candidacy for the open congressional seat in swing state New Hampshire. Sullivan is the first major candidate to jump into the race to succeed four-term Democrat Rep. Chris Pappas.
In an interview with Fox News, Sullivan emphasized the need for new leadership, stating that “our country clearly needs a new generation of leadership, period. And the Democratic Party needs new leadership, and I’m running to be one of those leaders.” She highlighted that the issues facing the nation are not Democrat or Republican issues but American issues.
Sullivan, who previously ran for Congress in 2018, is positioning herself as a candidate who will stand up against President Donald Trump and prominent figures like Elon Musk. In her campaign launch video, she expressed concern about the rising costs for New Hampshire families and the challenges of homeownership and bills. She vowed to protect the promise of America and ensure a better future for the next generation.
The race for New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District is expected to be competitive, with Republicans aiming to flip the seat from blue to red. Sullivan’s entry into the race sets the stage for a potentially intense campaign that will likely draw more contenders from both parties.
While Sullivan is the first major candidate to announce her candidacy, other potential contenders are also considering entering the race. Former state Sen. Tom Sherman, former state Sen. John Morgan, and Democrat state Sen. Rebecca Perkins Kwoka are among those who may join the race for the Democratic nomination.
On the Republican side, former state senator Russell Prescott, Hollie Noveletsky, Joe Kelly Levasseur, and Chris Bright are all weighing potential runs for Congress. State Attorney General John Formella is also being considered as a possible contender for the GOP nomination.
The upcoming congressional race in New Hampshire’s 1st District promises to be closely watched, as both parties vie for control of the seat. With Sullivan’s strong military background and focus on addressing the concerns of New Hampshire residents, she is poised to be a formidable candidate in the race. Stay tuned for updates as the campaign unfolds.
