Recall Issued for Eggs in Multiple Provinces Due to Salmonella Contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for certain brands of eggs in multiple provinces due to a possible salmonella contamination. Consumers are urged to check their egg cartons for the following brands: Compliments, Foremost, Golden Valley Eggs, IGA, no name, and Western Family.

The affected eggs have expiry dates of Feb. 16, Feb. 22, and March 1. The recall currently impacts British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba, with the possibility of other provinces and territories being affected as well. Initially, Alberta and Saskatchewan were included in the recall, but they have since been removed from the notice.

Consumers are advised not to consume, use, serve, or distribute the recalled products. Instead, they should dispose of the eggs or contact the retailer where they were purchased. It’s important to note that food contaminated with salmonella may not show any signs of spoilage, making it crucial to follow the recall notice.

Salmonella can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea in healthy individuals. However, the infection can be more severe or even fatal for young children, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.
