Size of Republican House majority to be decided by 7 remaining uncalled races

The 2024 election has come and gone, but the final outcome is still uncertain as seven House races remain uncalled. While Republican Donald Trump secured the presidency for a second term and the GOP will maintain control of the Senate, the House of Representatives is still up in the air.
As of now, the Republicans hold 218 seats, while the Democrats have 210. The balance of power will not be clear until all the votes are counted. Several key races are still undecided, with California being a focal point due to the slow vote counting process.
In California’s 9th Congressional District, Democrat Josh Harder was projected to win re-election over Republican Kevin Lincoln. In Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, Democrat Janelle Bynum defeated Republican incumbent Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
The remaining uncalled House races are crucial in determining the final makeup of the House. In Alaska’s at-large district, Democratic incumbent Rep. Mary Sattler Peltola is in a tight race against Republican Nick Begich. In California’s 13th Congressional District, Republican Rep. John Duarte is leading Democrat Adam Gray by a slim margin. In the 21st Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Jim Costa is ahead of Republican Michael Maher. In the 45th Congressional District, incumbent Republican Michelle Steel is narrowly leading Democrat Derek Tran.
In Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, Republican incumbent Rep. Mariannet Miller-Meeks holds a slim lead over challenger Christina Bohannan. In Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, Democratic incumbent Jared Golden is barely ahead of Republican Austin Theriault.
One of the most closely watched races is in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, where Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur is leading Republican Derek Merrin by a small margin.
The outcome of these races will determine the final makeup of the House and potentially impact the legislative agenda for the next term. It is crucial to wait for all the votes to be counted before declaring a winner in these races. Stay tuned for updates as the results continue to unfold.
