Taylor Swift Changes Controversial Lyrics From ‘Better Than Revenge’
Taylor Swift is using the re-recording of her music as an opportunity to make some changes.
The singer dropped her “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” album on Friday, addressing something that hasn’t aged well.
In the original version of her 2010 single “Better Than Revenge,” Swift sings, “She’s better known for the things she does on the mattress.”
In the 2023 version, Swift changed the line to “He was a moth to the flame, she held the matches.”
Taylor is known for her advocacy for women and her fans debated for weeks whether she should change the original lyrics, which many saw as “slut shaming.”
The superstar singer did not announce the edit ahead of time and received mixed reactions online. However, it’s not the first time Swift has changed the lyrics of a song – she previously adapted the lyrics for “Picture to Burn” from her 2006 debut album.
Swift is re-recording her music after Music Director Scooter Braun bought the master recordings of her first six albums from her former label Big Machine Label Group in 2019, a sale she objected to.
Braun reportedly sold them to a private equity firm in 2020 for $300 million.
