Taylor Swift Eras tour: MPs upset after no dates announced for Canada

An Alberta MP is filing an “official complaint” with the House of Commons calling on Taylor Swift to bring her Eras Tour to Canada.
“It has come to my attention that despite much anticipation, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour failed to include any Canadian dates or locations when she released her international dates, with stops in Asia and Europe,” Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux wrote in a letter. addressed to House Speaker Anthony Rota on Wednesday.
The pop superstar announced international tour dates for the Eras Tour on Tuesday. Swift has international shows scheduled in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia, but no Canadian dates have been announced.
Swift is more than halfway through her US tour, which has been a boon to the hotel and tourism industry in every city she has performed in. Online research agency QuestionPro estimates that her tour could bring nearly $5 billion to the US economy.
“Not only does this give Canadian fans the chance to see her tour, but it also leaves Canada out of the economic opportunities her shows provide,” Jeneroux wrote. “Fans don’t just go to concerts, they spend money on local businesses, including hotels, restaurants and shops.”
Jeneroux’s complaint also has the support of Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman and Liberal MP Ya’ara Saks.
“I have no idea how this works, but I’ll endorse this complaint from @jeneroux if you can even do that,” Lantsman tweeted on Wednesday. “We’ve got you, Swifties.”
“Joint secondment of this @jeneroux for my two #Swify’s at home,” Saks also tweeted on Wednesday.
The Eras Tour is Swift’s sixth world tour and her only one to skip stops in Canada. Swift’s last appearance in Canada was in August 2018, when she stopped in Toronto for her Reputation Stadium Tour.
