Texas DOGE bill passes to streamline state regulations

Texas has taken a major step towards government efficiency with the passage of a new bill that aims to create a regulatory efficiency office similar to the federal government’s Department of Government Efficiency initiated by former President Donald Trump. Texas Senate Bill 14, also known as Texas SB14, establishes the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office, which will focus on streamlining state regulations, reducing unnecessary rules, and making significant cuts to the size of the state government.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a key proponent of the bill, drew inspiration from President Trump’s efforts to create a more efficient government. In a statement, Patrick emphasized the importance of cutting burdensome regulations to save taxpayers and businesses money. He believes that Texas’ conservative approach to regulation will continue to drive prosperity and economic growth in the state.

One of the key provisions of the bill is the establishment of a regulatory efficiency advisory panel that will provide guidance to the governor’s office and the Efficiency Office. The panel will include members from regulated businesses, the public, occupational license holders, higher education institutions, and state agencies. Additionally, the bill aims to improve public access to regulatory information by creating an interactive website where people can easily search for state agency rules and information by topic, activity, or NAICS code.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the Efficiency Office will be required to submit a biennial report to the governor and the Legislative Budget Board detailing its activities, findings, and recommendations. Patrick believes that this bill is crucial for the people of Texas and will ultimately result in savings for taxpayers.

The bill has now been sent to the House committee for further review before it can be voted on by the Texas House of Representatives. If passed into law, it is expected to have a significant impact on government efficiency and regulatory reform in the state. The move towards a more streamlined and effective government is seen as a positive step towards fostering economic growth and prosperity in Texas.
