The August 8 election called for Preston riding in Nova Scotia

Voters in the Preston constituency go to the polls on August 8.

The by-election date was announced by the Nova Scotia government on Friday.

Angela Simmonds won the Preston ride in the August 17, 2021 election. Less than a year later, Simmonds unsuccessfully ran for the leadership of the Liberal Party as MPs instead chose Yarmouth MLA and former Cabinet Minister Zach Churchill to support the Liberals of to lead the opposition.

At the end of January, Simmonds announced her resignation. Her last day at the Provinciehuis was March 31.

Pending the setting of a by-election date by Prime Minister Tim Houston, candidates from the major parties were nominated.

Carlo Simmons, a lifelong resident of Preston, will carry the Liberal hopes in the midterm elections. Twila Grosse was nominated to carry the Progressive Conservative banner, and youth advocate Colter Simmonds will represent the NDP.
