Orlando Pride Makes History with Record-Breaking Transfer Signing
Orlando Pride has made waves in the world of women’s soccer with the signing of midfielder Lizbeth Ovalle from Liga MX Club Tigres Femenil. The National Women’s Soccer League Club announced the world record transfer on Thursday, solidifying Ovalle’s position as one of the top players in the game.
The deal, reportedly worth $1.5 million, sees Ovalle sign a two-year contract with the option to extend until 2028. This transfer fee surpasses the previous record set by Arsenal, who paid $1.3 million to acquire Canadian attacker Olivia Smith from Liverpool last month.
Ovalle, a 25-year-old Mexico International, has been a standout player for Tigres Femenil, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with 136 goals and 103 assists in 294 appearances over eight years. Her impressive performances helped Tigres Femenil secure six Liga MX Femenil titles during her time at the club.
In addition to her club success, Ovalle has also been a key player for the Mexican national team, earning 81 caps and scoring 20 goals. She played a pivotal role in Mexico’s Gold-Medal Run at the 2023 Pan American Games.

Before making the move to Orlando, Ovalle will participate in the inaugural Liga MX Femenil All-Star match against Champions League winners Barcelona. Orlando Pride, the reigning NWSL champions of 2024, currently sit in third place in the standings, 12 points behind league leaders KC Current.
