Mother charged in ATV crash that killed 4-month-old baby

A tragic incident occurred in Nova Scotia when a woman driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) was involved in a crash that claimed the life of her infant daughter. Madisyn Elizabeth Parker, 28, is now facing charges related to the incident, including impaired operation of a conveyance causing death, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, and causing death by criminal negligence.
According to the RCMP, it is alleged that Parker’s blood alcohol concentration was more than double the legal limit at the time of the crash, which took place near the 1100 block of Forties Road near New Ross, N.S. The infant, who was just four months old at the time, tragically succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash on May 27, 2024.
The crash involved a Polaris side-by-side on a logging road, with two adults and two children on board. In addition to the infant girl who lost her life, a second child suffered minor injuries. The two adults, including Parker from Forties and a 52-year-old man from New Ross, sustained serious injuries in the accident.
In the aftermath of the tragic incident, questions have been raised about ATV safety regulations in the region. The community is mourning the loss of the infant, whose obituary identified Parker as her mother. The case has been brought before the court, with Parker appearing and being released with conditions. She is scheduled to make a return appearance at Bridgewater provincial court on July 2.
This heartbreaking event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible and sober operation of vehicles, especially when the safety of passengers, particularly young children, is at stake. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this devastating tragedy.
