Timberlea man, 78, dies in two-vehicle crash near Margaree Forks

MARGAREE FORKS, N.S. — A 78-year-old man is dead after a two-vehicle crash near Margaree Forks on Saturday.

Emergency crews responded to the collision on Highway 19, involving a GMC SUV and Toyota Prius, shortly before 5 p.m., RCMP said.

Police said investigations show the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions before the collision sent them both into a ditch with the SUV flipping over.

The rear passenger of the Prius, a Timberlea man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and passenger, both women from Halifax, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The SUV’s driver, a 41-year-old woman from Cheticamp, was taken to hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

Three youths in the SUV appeared uninjured.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
