Toronto-based takeout service Ritual is laying off 40% of its staff
TORONTO — Ritual says it has laid off about 40 percent of its company.
The cuts by the Toronto-based food pick-up service amount to about 38 employees.
The company did not say what prompted the layoff, but described it as a difficult decision in a statement.
Ritual says it believes the move will strengthen the company, position it for success and help it better serve restaurants as they grow their business.
The cut comes after Ritual said in May it would start charging consumers for every order they place on the platform.
The cost is between 15 and 99 cents for orders under $30 and $1.99 for orders over $30.
