Toronto police ID suspect in TMU hit-and-run

Toronto police are on the lookout for a 23-year-old man named Ryan Petroff, who is believed to have attempted to run over an individual with a vehicle at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). However, during this shocking incident, he ended up hitting four people instead. Police have urged Petroff to surrender himself, as he is considered dangerous.
Inspector Errol Watson of the Toronto Police mentioned that Petroff targeted a specific person, but did not disclose the nature of their relationship. A photo of Petroff has been released, with a warning for the public not to approach him if spotted.
Petroff is facing multiple charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and it is uncertain whether Petroff is known to law enforcement.
The incident took place on Nelson Mandela Walk, a pedestrian pathway on the TMU campus. The vehicle used by Petroff was identified as a green Honda Accord with stolen license plates. The police have not located the vehicle yet and are unsure if it was stolen.
Two of the injured individuals were taken to the hospital, but all four are expected to recover. Witnesses on campus, like third-year student Isaac Meng, described the chaos and panic that ensued after the collision. Meng recounted hearing the sound of the vehicle before seeing the aftermath outside the library.
In response to the incident, TMU is collaborating with the City of Toronto to enhance safety measures on Nelson Mandela Walk while allowing access for emergency vehicles. Planters have been installed at the entrances to the walkway as an immediate precaution.
Mayor Olivia Chow and TMU officials addressed the incident at a university event, expressing concern for those affected. TMU issued a safety alert online and stated their support for the injured individuals.
As the search for Ryan Petroff continues, the community remains on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to this troubling incident.
