Trans people prepare ‘survival skills’ on Trans Day of Visibility, protests against Trump’s executive orders

Transgender communities across the country are gearing up for a weekend of events in celebration of Trans Day of Visibility on Monday. The events are taking place in some of the bluest cities in the country, including San Francisco, Chicago, and Atlanta, to show solidarity and support for transgender individuals in the face of President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders clamping down on progressive gender ideology.

One of the highlights of the weekend is the “Skillsharing & Practical Survival” workshop in San Francisco, organized by activist Zander Moreno. The workshop aims to provide tangible benefits to transgender individuals in response to the current political climate. Moreno emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces for trans people and building a movement against discriminatory policies coming from the White House.

In addition to the workshop, Trans Fest in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district will offer legal assistance, workshops on rights, political education classes, and self-defense sessions. The festival will kick off with an indigenous prayer led by activist Angel C. Fabian, also known as Tlahuizpapalotl, or “Butterfly of Light.”

Meanwhile, in Chicago, a rally and march organized by Trans Up Front and Indivisible Chicago will take place in response to what they see as targeted attacks on transgender and nonbinary individuals by the Trump administration and the Republican-led Congress. The event aims to amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community and demand equality, dignity, and protection of rights.

In Atlanta, the LGBTQ affairs department in the mayor’s office is hosting a Trans Day of Visibility celebration at City Hall, titled “Deeper than Visibility: How We Talk about Us.” The event is part of a larger movement to show support for transgender individuals and promote acceptance and equality in communities across the country.

GLAAD president and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, emphasized the importance of coming together to celebrate and show solidarity for transgender people at a critical moment in history. She highlighted that equal treatment is not a partisan issue, but a value that unites all of us.

These events come at a time when President Trump has signed several executive orders aimed at limiting gender ideology influence in federal policies and education. The transgender community is facing increased discrimination and violence, making it crucial for communities to come together and support one another.

As the fight for transgender rights continues, events like these serve as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the transgender community. By standing together and advocating for equality and acceptance, we can create a more inclusive and supportive society for all individuals, regardless of gender identity.
