Trump claims he’d ‘rather deal with a liberal than a conservative’ in Ottawa

President Trump Prefers Dealing with Liberals Over Conservatives

President Donald Trump made headlines on Tuesday when he expressed his preference for dealing with liberal leaders over conservative ones, even going as far as saying he wouldn’t mind if the Liberal Party won the upcoming Canadian election. This surprising statement came during an interview on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle, where host Laura Ingraham pointed out the potential consequences of Trump’s tough stance towards Canada.

Trump’s relationship with Canada has been strained, with the imposition of tariffs on Canadian imports and threats to make Canada the 51st U.S. state. Despite this, Trump stated, “I don’t care. I think it’s easier to deal, actually, with a liberal and maybe they’re going to win, but I don’t really care. It doesn’t matter to me at all.”

When asked about Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre, Trump didn’t hold back, calling him “stupid” and stating that he is not a friend of his. Trump has previously criticized Poilievre, claiming that he is “not a MAGA guy.”

The Liberal Party of Canada, currently led by newly sworn-in Prime Minister Mark Carney, has been making a comeback in recent polls. Despite facing a potential defeat to the Conservatives, the Liberals have been closing the gap and even leading in some polls.

The Liberals have portrayed Poilievre as a right-wing populist similar to Trump, with Poilievre adopting the slogan “Canada First” in response to U.S. threats and attempting to link Carney to the former Trudeau government.

As the Canadian election approaches, the Conservative Party of Canada and the Liberal Party of Canada have yet to respond to Trump’s comments.
