Trump endorses Wisconsin Supreme Court hopeful Brad Schimel in high-stakes race

President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind conservative Brad Schimel in Wisconsin’s upcoming state Supreme Court race, as the formally bipartisan contest draws mega-donor dollars over its potential national implications. Schimel, a former Wisconsin Attorney General who currently serves as a Waukesha County judge, has received Trump’s endorsement in the crucial race.
Republicans have expressed concerns that Schimel’s opponent, liberal Susan Crawford from Dane County, could potentially support efforts to redraw district maps in a way that would disadvantage two U.S. House Republicans. Trump took to TRUTH Social to voice his endorsement of Schimel, warning of Crawford’s radical leftist views and her support for policies such as open borders and allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court election is scheduled for April 1, but Trump urged supporters to turn out early for Schimel as voting had already begun. He highlighted Schimel’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting law enforcement, safeguarding the Constitution, and preserving liberty and justice for all.
The race has attracted significant financial support from both sides, with liberal billionaire George Soros backing Crawford’s campaign and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk funding groups that support Schimel. Additional donations have poured in from prominent figures such as Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, the Uihlein family, Reid Hoffman, and Joe Ricketts.
Republicans have labeled Crawford as dangerously liberal, pointing to her support from Soros and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as well as her stance on controversial issues like gender-transition surgeries for minors and transgender sports participation. They have accused Crawford of signaling a willingness to legislate from the bench and challenge existing laws, including the state’s voter ID law.
The high-stakes election has national implications, as the outcome could influence future redistricting efforts, union policies, and transgender rights issues. Both parties are mobilizing their supporters to secure a victory in what is shaping up to be a closely contested race with significant ramifications for Wisconsin’s political landscape.
In a show of support for Schimel, Donald Trump Jr. recently held an event for the conservative candidate, underscoring the importance of the race and the need for voters to make their voices heard. With the battle for the Wisconsin Supreme Court heating up, the stage is set for a fierce competition that could shape the state’s future direction and have ripple effects across the country.
