US Election 2024

Trump secures momentum heading into Fourth of July weekend with series of wins

President Donald Trump is on a winning streak after signing his $3.3 trillion bill, which he has dubbed as a “big, beautiful bill.” This latest victory adds to a series of recent successes for his administration, including a Supreme Court ruling in his favor and successful strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt praised Trump, stating that he has delivered more wins for the American people in two weeks than most presidents do in four years. She called these past two weeks the most historic of any administration in history, declaring that America is back and the hottest country in the world.

The tax and domestic policy bill, signed on July 4, includes provisions to permanently establish individual and business tax breaks from Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. It also introduces new tax deductions to reduce duties on tips and overtime pay. Additionally, the bill raises the debt limit by $5 trillion, a measure that has faced criticism from figures like Elon Musk.

Furthermore, the bill rescinds certain green energy tax credits from the Biden administration and allocates approximately $350 billion for defense and Trump’s mass deportation initiative to remove illegal immigrants from the U.S. It also implements Medicaid reforms, including 80-hour-a-month work requirements for Medicaid recipients and expanded work requirements for those on SNAP.

In addition to the bill’s passage, the Trump administration has seen success in other areas. The U.S. launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21, with over 125 aircraft involved. While initial assessments suggested severe damage, a leaked report cast doubt on the extent of the strikes. However, the Pentagon later confirmed that the strikes set back Iran’s nuclear program by one to two years.

The Supreme Court ruled on June 27 to block lower courts from issuing universal injunctions, limiting their ability to block executive orders like Trump’s ban on birthright citizenship. Trump celebrated the ruling as a victory against an abuse of power by federal judges.

Furthermore, CBS News’ parent company, Paramount Global, agreed to a $16 million settlement with Trump related to a lawsuit stemming from a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. The settlement will go towards Trump’s future presidential library and plaintiffs’ fees and costs, with no apology issued by Paramount.

Overall, the Trump administration is riding a wave of momentum with recent victories in policy, national security, and legal battles. These wins showcase the president’s ability to deliver on his promises and shape the direction of the country.
