Trump wants ‘distorted’ portrait removed from Colorado Capitol: ‘The worst’

President Donald Trump has made a bold demand for the removal of a “distorted” portrait of himself from the Colorado State Capitol Building. In a statement released on the social media platform Truth Social, the 47th president expressed his displeasure with the portrait, alleging that it was intentionally distorted to an unprecedented level. Trump went as far as to suggest that the portrait of President Obama, also created by the same artist, was much more favorable in comparison.

The former president cited the numerous complaints he received from Coloradans as the basis for his request to have the portrait removed. He emphasized that the residents of Colorado were not only dissatisfied with the portrayal but were also angry about it. Trump shared his preference for not having a portrait at all rather than displaying the current depiction that has garnered such negative feedback.

The controversial portrait, unveiled in 2019, was created by artist Sarah A. Boardman. At the unveiling ceremony, Boardman described the portrait as “thoughtful, non-confrontational, not angry, not happy, not tweeting,” emphasizing the need for neutrality in presidential portraits. Trump, however, remains adamant about his disapproval of the portrayal and has called for its immediate removal.

In addition to addressing the portrait issue, Trump took the opportunity to criticize Colorado Governor Jared Polis for his stance on crime policies. Trump accused Polis of being “extremely weak on Crime,” particularly in dealing with the Tren de Aragua criminal group that had caused turmoil in Aurora. The former president asserted that Polis should be ashamed of his handling of the situation and urged him to take action against the criminal activities in the state.

During his campaign, Trump capitalized on a viral video showing Tren de Aragua members engaging in criminal activities in Aurora, which Polis allegedly downplayed. Trump’s strong stance against crime and his commitment to law and order remain central to his political agenda.

As the controversy surrounding the distorted portrait unfolds, Trump’s call for its removal has sparked a heated debate in Colorado. The former president’s unwavering stance on the issue reflects his determination to uphold his image and legacy, even in the realm of artistic representations. The ongoing dispute between Trump and Polis underscores the broader political tensions surrounding crime and public safety in the state.
