US Coast Guard intercepts 21 illegal immigrants off California coast

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) successfully intercepted a boat carrying 21 illegal immigrants off the coast of San Diego, California. The operation took place approximately 20 miles west of Point Loma, with the USCG Cutter Haddock, USCG Cutter Forrest Rednour, and a CBP Air and Marine Operations patrol aircraft participating in the mission.

The 21 illegal immigrants were taken into custody and later transferred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel. This interception is part of the Coast Guard’s expanded efforts to combat illegal immigration, following direction from President Donald Trump to enhance border patrol measures.

In recent months, the Coast Guard has intercepted several boats carrying illegal immigrants attempting to enter the United States through California waters. The service is increasing its assets and personnel nationwide to support the Department of Homeland Security in its mission to combat illegal migrant activity.

Adm. Kevin Lunday, the Coast Guard’s acting commandant, emphasized the importance of protecting America’s borders, territorial integrity, and sovereignty in accordance with the President’s Executive Orders. Trump’s administration has implemented policies to deter illegal immigration, resulting in a significant decrease in apprehensions of illegal immigrants by CBP.

The Coast Guard’s efforts to intercept and detain illegal immigrants highlight the ongoing challenges of securing the nation’s borders. As the Coast Guard continues to deploy resources to combat illegal immigration, the collaboration with CBP and other agencies remains crucial in maintaining border security.

Overall, the interception of the boat carrying 21 illegal immigrants underscores the importance of border protection and the dedication of military personnel to safeguard the nation’s borders. The Coast Guard’s proactive approach to intercepting illegal immigrants at sea demonstrates a commitment to upholding national security and enforcing immigration laws.
