Victim in Calgary double homicide identified by school division as elementary teacher

Rocky View Schools, a school division in southern Alberta, is mourning the loss of one of its teachers, Ania Kaminski, who was tragically killed in a double homicide over the weekend. Kaminski, who had been teaching at an elementary school in Cochrane, northwest of Calgary, was described as a beloved teacher by colleagues, friends, and students.

The school division released a statement on Tuesday expressing their deepest condolences to all those affected by Kaminski’s death. They highlighted the positive impact she had on the lives of students and staff during her time working at schools in Airdrie and Springbank.

The double homicide, which took place in Calgary, claimed the lives of a woman in her 30s, identified as Ania Kaminski, and a man in his 70s, her father, Stanislaw Wardzala. The suspect in the case, 38-year-old Benedict Kaminski, was found dead near his vehicle in a rural area 80 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

Police have confirmed that the motive for the killings is still under investigation, but they believe the incident was targeted. The school division is offering support to students and staff affected by the tragedy, with resources available for those in need.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Kaminski’s three children, who are now left without their mother. The page describes Kaminski as a beloved mom, daughter, sister, and friend, and has raised over $120,000 for the family. Police have assured that the children are safe, and autopsies for both victims are scheduled for Friday.

The community is coming together to mourn the loss of Ania Kaminski and support her family during this difficult time. The school division is working to provide a safe and supportive environment for students and staff as they cope with this tragic event.
