Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall, a key member of the iconic Purple People Eaters front that anchored four Super Bowl teams, passed away at the age of 87 after a lengthy hospital stay due to an undisclosed illness. Marshall, who played the majority of his 20-year NFL career with the Vikings, was known for his durability and leadership on and off the field.

Born in Kentucky and a standout player at Ohio State, Marshall was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1960 before finding a home in Minnesota. He set a record for position players with 282 consecutive regular-season games played, a testament to his toughness and commitment to the game.
