Indiana parents arrested for abuse after zip-tying 10-year-old son, telling sibling to beat him up

An Indiana couple is facing allegations of neglect and abuse towards their 10-year-old son, including restraining him with zip ties, covering his head with a towel, and instructing his siblings to beat him up. Melody Rose Greenwood, 38, and Adam Jon Greenwood, 36, have been preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent.
The abuse came to light when the malnourished child was taken to a hospital for an examination that revealed signs of neglect and abuse. The Muncie Police were informed of the suspected abuse, leading to an investigation into the Greenwood couple’s actions.
According to reports, the child was fed only canned food like beans, tomatoes, and soup, while the rest of the family had regular meals, including cheeseburgers and fast food. The boy was forced to stand against a wall for up to 12 hours a day, with a towel sometimes placed over his head to prevent him from watching TV. His siblings were allegedly told to physically harm him if he spoke or moved away from the wall.
The child also disclosed that his mother used zip ties to restrain him, causing him pain due to the tightness of the ties. He mentioned that his hands were once tied behind his back overnight at his mother’s instruction, resulting in visible scars and marks on his wrists.
Furthermore, the child’s education was reportedly limited to reading three chapters of a book per day, with two older siblings responsible for homeschooling the younger children while the parents were at work.
Melody Greenwood faces three counts of neglect of a dependent, while Adam Greenwood faces two counts of the same charge. Both were booked into the Delaware County Jail but were released on bond – Melody on a $15,000 bond and Adam on a $10,000 bond.
The Delaware County Prosecutor’s office will review the case to determine whether formal charges will be filed against the Greenwoods. The investigation into the alleged neglect and abuse continues as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved.
