Quebec Provincial Police spokesman accused of assaulting a minor in 1988

PERCÉ, Que. – A spokesman for the Quebec Provincial Police is facing three criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in 1988, before joining the force.
Sergeant Claude Doiron appeared in court today in Percé, in the Gaspesie region, on charges of assault, solicitation of sexual contact and sexual interference against a child under the age of 14.
According to the indictment, the alleged crimes took place between May and September 1988 in Cloridorme, on the Gaspé Peninsula.
Doiron, now 60, was 25 years old at the time, and the Quebec Provincial Police said he had not yet joined the force.
A lawyer for Doiron said his client has not entered a plea and the case will go to court on September 29.
Doiron has appeared regularly in the media since 2012, when he was appointed provincial police spokesperson for the regions of Gaspésie and Bas-Saint-Laurent.
