US strikes Iran nuclear sites as Israeli ambassador slams Iranian counterpart
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, did not hold back in his criticism of Iran’s representative during a recent Security Council session. He referred to the Iranian diplomat as “a wolf disguised as a diplomat,” highlighting the regime’s support for terrorism around the world. This fiery exchange took place just hours before the US launched strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran.
Following the US strikes on nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, which President Donald Trump described as being “totally obliterated,” Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, demanded an emergency meeting of the Security Council. He called for condemnation of the US actions in the strongest terms and insisted that there should be repercussions for the attack.
In a letter to UN Secretary General António Guterres, Iravani described the US strikes as premeditated and unprovoked, labeling them as a flagrant violation of international law. He urgently requested the Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to address what he deemed as an unlawful act of aggression.
Danon, in response to similar accusations against Israel, criticized the council’s hypocrisy by calling out the Iranian representative for portraying themselves as a victim. He accused Iran of seeking sympathy from the international community while continuing to engage in nefarious activities globally. Danon emphasized that after decades of ignoring the international community, Iran was now trying to play the victim card.
After the US strikes on Iran, Danon expressed his belief that the US had taken necessary action to prevent a destructive nuclear Iran from posing a threat to Israel, the US, and the free world. He urged the UN to acknowledge President Trump’s efforts in promoting peace through strength, rather than condemning the US for its actions.
UN Secretary General António Guterres expressed alarm over the escalation of conflict between the US and Iran, warning of catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world. He called on member states to de-escalate tensions and uphold their obligations under international law.
In the aftermath of the US strikes on Iran, Israel faced a retaliatory missile attack that caused widespread destruction in cities like Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Nes Ziona.
