‘Would love to’: Republicans jostle for open spots on Marjorie Taylor Greene-led DOGE panel

House Republicans are rallying behind Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., as they consider the creation of a new congressional subcommittee focused on cutting government waste. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., is reportedly planning to establish the Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) subcommittee, with Greene at the helm.

Several Republican lawmakers have expressed interest in joining the panel, including Reps. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., and Cory Mills, R-Fla. Burchett praised Greene as someone who would “take no prisoners” in the fight against wasteful spending, while Luna described her as an “immovable object” when it comes to budget cuts. Mills emphasized the importance of being “hawkish” on fiscal matters and expressed his desire to contribute to the subcommittee’s efforts.

Former President Donald Trump recently announced the creation of an advisory panel called the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk. The panel aims to reduce regulations, eliminate wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., commended Greene’s attention to detail and willingness to support the panel’s goals.

Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, also showed interest in joining the subcommittee and praised Greene for her commitment to reining in the federal government. House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Harris, R-Md., expressed hope that fiscal hawks within the conservative group would be considered for positions on the new panel.

The establishment of the DOGE subcommittee represents a significant step towards promoting fiscal responsibility and accountability in government. As lawmakers work to address wasteful spending and streamline government operations, Greene’s leadership and determination are expected to play a crucial role in driving meaningful change.
