Party leaders campaign in Ontario, B.C. battlegrounds as election day nears

With just two days left until the federal election, party leaders are making their final push in key ridings in southern Ontario and British Columbia. Liberal Leader Mark Carney has been blitzing through battleground ridings, including the Greater Toronto Area and Windsor, Ont., where anxiety over U.S. President Donald Trump’s auto tariffs looms large.
During a news conference at Seneca College campus in King City, Ont., Carney emphasized the need to protect Canada from Trump’s attempts to undermine the country. He stated, “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us. And well, that will never happen.” Carney expressed confidence that Canada can emerge victorious in the trade war and build the strongest economy in the G7 by uniting as a nation.
When questioned about recent comments made by Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet, who referred to Canada as an “artificial country with very little meaning,” Carney firmly rejected the notion. He declared, “This is an incredible country. What I would look to be part of is this process that is underway, of the country coming together, of unifying. And I want to support that, not divide.”
Carney’s tour continues through several key ridings in the 905-area, with stops planned in Newmarket, Aurora, and Markham. These seats are crucial for the Liberals to maintain their lead in Ontario and secure a victory on Monday.
Meanwhile, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is focusing on Vancouver area ridings in Surrey and Delta, B.C., before heading to Sudbury, Ont., for a campaign event. The Conservatives are aiming to make gains in these regions, with multiple seats in play.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is campaigning in southwestern Ontario, where his party is fighting to hold on to the seats they won in 2021. Singh emphasized the importance of voters supporting the NDP to continue building the country.
As the election draws near, party leaders are making their final appeals to voters, with each emphasizing their vision for the future of Canada. Carney also highlighted his commitment to pursuing trade with India, despite existing tensions, to strengthen Canada’s economy and global partnerships. The campaign trail is heating up as the countdown to election day continues.
