Watch Canada’s Alysha Newman, Aaron Brown compete at Doha Diamond League

The Diamond League track and field meet in Doha, Qatar, is set to showcase some of the top Canadian athletes from the Paris Olympic Games. With coverage beginning on Friday at 12 p.m. ET, fans can tune in to watch live action on CBC Sports.

One athlete to watch is Alysha Newman, the Olympic bronze medallist in the women’s pole vault. Newman made headlines in Paris when she set a new national record with a jump of 4.85 metres. She will be competing in her first Diamond League meet of the season against tough competition, including Olympic silver medallist Katie Moon of the U.S.

In a recent interview with CBC Sports, Newman opened up about her life after winning the bronze medal and shared some valuable life lessons. Despite only competing in one indoor event earlier this year, Newman is ready to take on the challenges of the Diamond League in Doha.

Unfortunately, the gold medallist from Paris, Nina Kennedy, will be missing the start of the season due to hamstring surgery. However, the event will still feature top athletes such as Sandi Morris from the U.S., Eliza McCartney from New Zealand, Tina Šutej from Slovenia, and Molly Caudery from Great Britain.

In the men’s 200-metre event, Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown will face tough competition from Letsile Tobogo of Botswana, the current world No. 1-ranked athlete in the distance. Brown, with a personal best of 19.95, is coming off a bronze medal win at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, where he secured a spot at the world championships in Tokyo.

Both athletes have been in good form, with De Grasse recording a time of 20.23 in the 200 and Blake running a wind-aided 10.00 in the 100m.

Overall, the Diamond League in Doha and the Continental Tour stop in Tokyo promise to be exciting events for track and field fans. With a lineup of top athletes from around the world, including Canadian medallists from the Paris Olympics, there will be plenty of thrilling moments to look forward to.
