Florida woman accused of attacking elderly Trump supporter wearing MAGA hat

A Florida woman, Laura Garrett, is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking a 72-year-old man who was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. The incident took place at Northeast Park and Paw Place in Largo, Florida. Garrett was arrested by the Largo Police Department on charges of battery on a person over 65, battery on a police officer, and obstructing or resisting an officer without violence.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Garrett admitted to approaching the man to ask him about President Donald Trump and why he supports him. The situation escalated into an argument, during which Garrett poured a can she was holding on the victim’s head and hit him on the back of his head and shoulder area with it. Although Garrett denied hitting him with the can, she did acknowledge the confrontation.
Following the attack, Garrett jumped a fence and tried to walk away, but was later located by police officers. When they attempted to arrest her, she allegedly fought with them. The arrest report states that Garrett intentionally dropped to the ground when officers put her in handcuffs. She also wrapped both of her legs around an officer, causing him to fall to the ground.
During the altercation, the officer’s knee was bruised, leading to a second battery charge against Garrett. She continued to resist arrest by kicking and pulling away from the officers. Garrett was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday evening but was released the following night.
The incident highlights the divisive nature of politics in today’s society and the importance of respecting differing opinions. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of resorting to violence when faced with opposing viewpoints. The case will now proceed through the legal system, where Garrett will have the opportunity to defend herself against the charges brought against her.
