Five years after N.S. boy Dylan Ehler went missing, searchers take another look
A team of 12 dedicated volunteers gathered this past weekend in Truro, Nova Scotia to search for Dylan Ehler, a three-year-old boy who went missing five years ago. Led by the volunteer organization “Please Bring Me Home,” the search party included community members and Dylan’s father, Jason Ehler.
Five volunteers from Ontario flew in on Friday to join the search efforts, focusing their efforts along the CN Rail line in close proximity to where Dylan was last seen. The organization has been involved in Dylan’s case since his disappearance, working closely with his father to try and bring closure to the family.
Melissa Noel, an investigator with the team, expressed the importance of finding Dylan for his grieving family. She stated, “There’s a grieving family behind us right now, and they want their son back. They want to have a place to go and remember him and put this behind them.”
Dylan was last seen playing in his grandmother’s yard on Elizabeth Street before he vanished. Despite a thorough six-day search following his disappearance, only his boots were found near Lepper Brook, a creek that flows into the Salmon River.
During the recent search, the team discovered an “item of interest” approximately 160 meters from Dylan’s grandmother’s house. This discovery has been handed over to the Truro police for further investigation.
Among the volunteers was Mikel Legere, a local school teacher and parent himself, who assisted in searching along the Salmon River. He shared that a sense of duty and the urge to help drove him to join the search efforts.
In addition to the search for Dylan, another search is ongoing in Nova Scotia for Lilly and Jack Sullivan, two children who went missing in Pictou County last month. Jason Ehler expressed his empathy for their family, stating that searching for his own son while knowing about other missing children is overwhelming and brings back painful memories.
As the search for Dylan continues, the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome. Police have confirmed that Dylan’s disappearance is still an active investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact them directly at 902-895-5351.
The search efforts are a testament to the unwavering dedication of volunteers and the community to bring Dylan home and provide closure for his family.
