Boulder terror attack prompts House resolution to condemn antisemitism

House Republicans have introduced a new resolution in response to the recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, targeting a pro-Israel demonstration. The resolution, led by Rep. Randy Fine of Florida and Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, condemns the attack and calls for the deportation of individuals who overstay their visas, like the alleged attacker, Mohamed Sabry Soliman.

Soliman reportedly threw Molotov cocktails and used a makeshift flamethrower to attack peaceful pro-Israel activists, shouting “Free Palestine” during the incident. It has since been revealed that Soliman was in the U.S. illegally at the time of the attack, prompting calls for his deportation.

Fine, who is Jewish, emphasized the personal impact of the attack, stating, “This is not an issue that just affects me as a congressman. It affects me as a father of two Jewish boys who now have to ask themselves if they’re safe in their own country.” Pfluger also pointed out that the attack could have been prevented if Soliman had not been allowed to overstay his visa.

The resolution highlights the alarming rise in antisemitic violence across the U.S., citing the Boulder attack as well as other incidents targeting Jewish individuals. It condemns antisemitism in all forms and urges Congress to take action to secure the border and deport migrants who overstay their visas.

While the resolution may face opposition from some Democrats, both parties have expressed condemnation of the attack. Soliman is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, although no fatalities have been confirmed by police.

The bipartisan measure aims to address the growing threat of antisemitic violence in the U.S. and ensure the safety of all individuals, regardless of their religious or political beliefs. It underscores the need for strong border security measures and enforcement of immigration laws to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The resolution represents a step towards unity and cooperation in the face of adversity, reaffirming the commitment to safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all individuals in the country.
