“We need to ensure that people have access to the tools and resources they need to stay safe,” Larney said. “This includes naloxone, which can reverse the effects of an overdose, and safe consumption sites where individuals can use drugs under medical supervision.”

Martin Rivest, the outreach worker with the Association Québécoise pour la promotion de la santé des personnes utilisatrices de drogues, stresses the importance of providing comprehensive support to individuals struggling with addiction.

“We need to approach addiction as a public health issue, not a criminal one,” Rivest said. “We need to provide individuals with the support and resources they need to overcome their addiction and lead healthy, fulfilling lives.”
